Carezze / Caresses
(2022)
Synopsis
With the series Carezze (2021-2022), Martinucci pursues the creation of suspended imaginations and transversal narratives through three distinct cycles of works made around the figure of an Oleander, at once seductive and toxic, that the artist chooses as a metaphor of the context in which he finds himself living and working. Attracted by the ambivalent nature of this shrub, Martinucci tests the tenacity of painting through the obsessive and obstinate transposition of its leaves, generating a set of layers and visual lacerations that try to reconstruct the gesture of a caress.

This practice, rooted in the artist’s subconscious, leads Martinucci to abstain from the surrounding reality, while accepting, on the contrary, all that is unknown, fortuitous and excluded. In the course of the research, the vegetal element gradually loses its appearance to blend with other figurations that emerge in the form of free associations.

An act of kindness that occurs when we break the line that separates us from the world and meet other forms of sociality, made of care and listening.
